Who is God? (Part 5) God is immutable and righteous.

Immutable-some words are just fun to say. Immutable is one of those words. (It’s probably the “moo” part! Words that sound like animal noises are just fun).

When our children were teens, immutable seemed like a great alibi for why they could not silence their video games. We had to listen to the constant sounds, music, and honks because there was “no way to mute them”.

Actually, immutable means unchangeable. God never changes. That is a big deal when it comes to God. His constancy gives security. Everything about God is consistent and steady.

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent;
Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Hebrews 6:17-18
In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
James 1:17
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

God is righteous.

God’s righteousness determines that God always acts with justice according to His divine law. He is always right, free from any error, sin, or guilt.

Deuteronomy 32:4
The Rock! His work is perfect, for all His ways are just; a God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
Psalm 71:19
For Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens,
You who have done great things;
O God, who is like You?
Romans 3:23-26
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
