One of the many qualities of God that distinguishes Him from man is that He is righteous, meaning to act according to divine or moral law and be free from guilt or sin. Righteous is a word we can’t accomplish.
The good news is that because God is righteous we can expect His faithfulness always. The truth that God’s ways are just and without guilt or sin, encourages us to expect and receive His purposes with anticipation. God’s ways exceed all we can imagine.
Paul shares this truth in his first letter to the Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 2:9(NCV)
But as it is written in the Scriptures: “No one has ever seen this, and no one has ever heard about it. No one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
The psalmist praises God as He hopes continually in God’s righteousness and mighty deeds.
Psalm 71:14-16
But as for me, I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. 15My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and of Your salvation all day long; for I do not know the sum of them. 16I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
God’s righteousness deserves mention and praise, exaltation and awe, celebration and glory. He exceeds all we can imagine.
2 Corinthians 4:15
Indeed, everything is for your benefit so that, as grace extends through more and more people, it may cause thanksgiving to increase to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 4:15 is one of my favorite verses ever. It assures that God is doing everything for my eternal benefit. While He is doing His work in me (Phil. 2:13), He extends grace through me. God’s mighty righteousness creates increased thanksgiving and praise to His glory. He does all for my eternal benefit, extending grace to more and more people, and God is glorified. That’s our righteous God!
Expecting God’s faithfulness applies what we believe about God. We look forward to what God will do, seeking, acknowledging and believing His purpose. In His faithfulness, God-sized tasks are accomplished and He gets all the glory and honor.
As we expect God’s faithfulness, the truth of God’s word applies in every circumstance and we anticipate with joy what His purpose and provision will be. We wait, meditating on scripture, absorbing His words that assure us He knows and cares for every detail of our lives (1 Peter 5:7).
We speak of God’s character with praise, trusting that He continues His work to produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).
We do everything without grumbling or complaining (Phil. 2:14) but speaking what is wholesome for others (Eph. 4:29) and praiseworthy to God (Phil. 4:8).
We are valuable to Him (Matt. 6:26). Words of faith resound as we respond to God by expecting His peace, strength, sufficiency and righteousness to cover our lives.
